That pivotal moment

The whole room was glowing
But there was a hesitation before the clap
Should I give the attention over to this person?
She deserved it
She lost a good man, he thought

He had to give the room over to the widow
It was currency after all
Let her shed tears now
To claim the limelight
So that he can partake in the heavenly waters later
Clapping took over the chamber
Powerful stuff
For two whole minutes

Agony for a great man behind the podium
He consoled himself
Told himself in those agonizing two minutes
That he had grown
The hesitation was proof
He thought before he acted

Never too late for maturity
Never too late for real growth!
